New Kimberley Sites Approved
Earbus Foundation of Western Australia has received the go-ahead to roll out Phase 2 of its Kununurra-based Outreach Program to three new East Kimberley sites in 2019. In Phase 1 of the program the Kimberley Earbus visited Wyndham (2 sites), Kununurra (7) Halls Creek (3) Yiyili and Ringers Soak (1 each). These sites will continue to receive regular Earbus visits as the program expands to take in new locations.
Earbus Foundation has three staff based in Kununurra who conduct regular screening visits and identify children who need further care and treatment. Follow-up treatment takes place every month with Perth-based audiologists, nurses and primary care physicians making week-long visits to the screened sites.
The program is managed by WA Health Department and works in close collaboration with local Aboriginal Medical Services in Kununurra (OVAHS) and Halls Creek (YY). The program also liaises closely with Health Department staff and sites throughout the East Kimberley to minimise duplication and share data and results.
