Cosmo Newberry First Visit

This month Earbus Foundation provided an Outreach service directly to the Goldfields community of Cosmo Newberry for the first time, part of 6 planned annual visits. Earbus Nurse, Sarah Watson, and Audiologist Rachel Meddings visited Cosmo for initial ear screenings and to triage children for follow-up and treatment from the Earbus Clinical Team.

Cosmo Newberry lies on Yilka Country around 83km north-east of Laverton via the Great Central Road. The Earbus Outreach program is a joint initiative between the Cosmo Community, Gold Fields Australia and Earbus Foundation. GFA has an important mining project nearby at its Gruyere mine. By making mine camp sites and air strips available Gold Fields Australia has generously provided the framework and funding as part of its community support services.

We have had wonderful support from Community members who have graciously shared their local knowledge with the Earbus team. This includes valuable learning about Yilka Country so we can understand better about their home and country.
