PAEDIATRIC HEARING ASSESSMENT

A Paediatric Hearing Assessment is recommended to rule out an acquired hearing loss in the first year of life.

Newborn Hearing Screening only identifies babies with a hearing loss at birth, however 50% of childhood hearing loss happens in the first few years of life. Annual hearing testing is recommended until school age is reached.

Further assessment of your baby’s hearing is recommended because of one or both of the following reasons:

  • Your baby passed the newborn hearing screening in hospital and at the time you identified a risk factor for hearing loss, or

  • Your baby was referred by an Audiologist after infant diagnostic testing.

The test is with a Paediatric Audiologist at our clinic in Northbridge and takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes. The cost of the testing is $115, please note there is no Medicare rebate.
