Outreach Nurse
Our mission is to reduce the incidence of middle ear disease in Indigenous and at-risk children in Western Australia below the World Health Organisation benchmark of 4%. We will achieve this via our established outreach programs, which demonstrate excellence in Aboriginal health.
As part of a specialised clinical team facilitating screening, treatment and follow-up for the children and families we serve, in the regions where we operate, an Earbus Outreach Nurse works within our culturally appropriate visiting service delivery model to provide a complete medical pathway to Aboriginal children and their families suffering the effects of Otitis media and middle ear disease.
You will be community minded, compassionate and driven to make a difference, as well as organised; have a high attention to detail; ensure accurate record keeping; facilitate timely reporting of results to schools; be highly sensitive to the cultural needs of Aboriginal families; provide appropriate feedback to Aboriginal families regarding their children; and have a vision to develop new opportunities for service delivery.
ROLE RESPONSIBILTIES
With the ability to engage with families, communities and schools, your duties will include:
Clinical:
Identification of disease
Triaging referral of children to clinicians
Administering topical treatments
Education and follow-up of families and communities
Overseeing administration of medication
Assisting Audiology, GP and ENT services
Arranging and facilitating ENT Clinics
Assisting families to hospital surgical appointments
Promoting inter-agency collaboration and up skilling as required
Monitoring and maintaining accurate records to ensure no child slips through the pathway and is delayed access to the care they need
Education & Training:
Be available for educational talks with community or school groups when required
Demonstrate simple procedures with caregivers that they may undertake between Earbus visits
Supervise and mentor new staff and visiting students as required
Ensure service delivery is maintained at the required standard outlined by the policies and procedures as is requirement across all sites
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
Essential:
Travel to regional and remote communities is a requirement of this role
Nursing qualifications – Enrolled or Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner
AHPRA registration - current and continuing
Working With Children Card
National Police Check
Senior First Aid
Current “C” class motor vehicle licence
Cultural Awareness Training
Community minded and drive to make a difference
Ability to network within the community
Ability to work as part of a team or independently as required
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Proven ability for critical thinking and problem solving
Hand Hygiene Certification
Sound practical knowledge in computer literacy including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
Good understanding of record keeping, consent process and confidentiality (within Government legislated National Privacy Policy Principles)
Desirable:
Prior experience working within Aboriginal Australia
Previous experience working in remote communities
Working with children in an educational setting
Certificate IV in Ear Health
Certificate IV Training and Assessment
Community Health experience
4WD experience or advanced driver safety course/experience

Regional and remote travel requirements are attached to this position, which is based out of our Perth Head Office. Salary packaging conditions will be discussed at interview stage.
