Raising Awareness, Building Capacity
Ear disease has been routine childhood experience for generations of Aboriginal children - parents are often not shocked by runny noses and pouring ears, having experienced them themselves as children. This “normalisation” of ear disease is a sad legacy that contributes to unacceptably high rates of infection and disease, and lack of timely treatment.
While Earbus Foundation has worked hard to get children well and improve their ears and hearing, there is much more that can be done to raise awareness of ear disease and its causes. Better knowledge and awareness can give parents the confidence they need to seek treatment for their children’s ears. Increased knowledge of risk factors can encourage preventative behaviours – enhanced hygiene being one of the most effective strategies.
Earbus Foundation has committed to tackling this challenge in 2022 with the recruitment of a Nurse Educator with health promotion skills to be a regular part of Earbus visiting the regions. Apply here.
We are also seeking a Nurse to join our Clinical Outreach team. We’re excited by what these additions to our team will mean and welcome suitable applicants to apply here.
